ESPN Radio reached out to group of local affiliates offering each the opportunity to award someone in their market an “Honorary ESPY. The ESPN “ESPYS” awards have long been a way to honor individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the previous calendar year, but this was the first year local affiliates could participate in this manner.
104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge invited listeners to submit a nominee. Program Director Cade Voisin collected all nominees and presented them to a panel of Guaranty Media team members for a vote. “We wanted to find someone who not only made a difference to their team, but also to their community”, said Voisin.
Following the vote two finalist were named, Colleen Temple of University High School and Sean Burrell of Zachary. The panel elected to award both athletes as the first recipients of “The ESPN Baton Rouge Honorary ESPY”.
A crystal replica of the trophy presented at the ESPYS Ceremony was presented to Colleen and Sean on Friday night during Louisiana Prep Weekly as both were interviewed live on the show by Voisin and co-host Jimmy Roy.
